Iridology is the art of eyes. And eyes are more than windows to the soul. They’re also a health ‘GPS’; showing the genetic health lineage you come from, your health status now and an optical heads up indicating health issues you’re heading straight into.
More specifically, iridology is a naturopathy based science, delivered by qualified iridologists where the colour and structure of the iris – the ‘coloured’ part of our eyes, around the pupil – is analysed. And, to the trained iridologist’s eye, particular markings, colours and changes signify tissue generation in aligned parts of the body.
So, what can you find out through iridology? Our irises can illustrate our inherited condition of health, current state and what future health problems we may be facing.
Our eyes are our own advanced warning system! In effect, the knowledge that our iris gives us helps us take steps so our body’s tendencies and health imbalances, do not become realities.
And early detection, as we all know, is vital.
Me, myself and irises
With roots of iridology stretching back 3,000 years to Chinese dynasties, it’s surprising the practise is not more broadly understood and accepted. In fact, iridology belongs to the larger family of natural healing arts and is the art and science partner of nutrition.
Even while iridology is being practised and helping people worldwide, it’s considered a “sleeping giant” but one that’s just starting to wake up, especially if this quote has anything to do with it;
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.” Matthew 6:22-23
Three thousand years later, Dr. Ignatz von Peczely of Germany, and Nils Liljequist, a Swedish clergyman, followed St Matthew’s insight, going on to become forefathers of the modern development of iridology.
Iridology and Natural Health
As natural health practitioners, iridologists take the whole person into account. The focus is not the “disease” but the whole person. Their premise being we create disease, we don’t “catch” disease. The way we eat, drink, think, feel and the lifestyle we live breaks down natural defences. The emphasis on healing must include the whole person, not just the disease.
Analysis, not Diagnosis
While early iridologists referred to iris “diagnosis”, today the art and science is very much considered as “analysis”. Making a diagnosis is something that only a qualified health practitioner is able to provide and promote.

Naturopathic treatments like iridology are natural alternatives that more and more of us are looking for in today’s ‘me-me-me’, ‘now-now-now’ world. And that’s exactly where our ‘Live Clean’ philosophy lives. Good, healthy, natural choices that are better for each of us, our families and our world.
